The government of India has banned 59 Chinese apps in India. The list of apps includes popular ones like TikTok, Shareit, Shein, and Clash of Kings. The Ministry of Information Technology in a release stated that these 59 Chinese apps pose a threat to India because of the information available they are involved in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of a state, and public order.”
The release also states that there are security concerns with these apps. “At the same time, there have been raging concerns on aspects relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indians,” the release continued.
It further continues that there have been multiple complaints “from various sources” on how some of these apps are being misused on Android and iOS.This decision from the government comes from the ongoing clash with China in Ladakh. There have been many calls on social media to boycott Chinese products as well. But till now there was no obvious move by the government that puts a stop to Chinese goods or services in India.
Most of these Chinese apps are very popular in India. TikTok, for example, has the highest number of users in India. These apps cater to different uses like social media, online shopping, photo editing, and gaming. The ban on these apps has been announced but they’re still available on the Google Play Store and App Store. Here’s the full list of all the Chinese apps banned in India.
